While getting merged upstream is the ultimate goal, we'd like to wait until the driver is more feature complete and better tested. If we can get this package into Debian's experimental repository, it'll make it much easier for people to use the driver and most importantly to report bugs. Once we've got a decent number of people testing then we can consider getting merged upstream.
