I don't see any major showstoppers besides the "sid" distribution and

necessary (there is no need to remove the spec file, as long as it is
not installed, which seemed like the only change to the build system)?
Yes, you're right -- I'm using upstream's autoconf files in the new upload.
The description should probably read "...an USB..." and would ideally
have a few paragraph breaks. Not using debhelper is fine with me.
A quick google for "a USB" turned up 1.9 million hits and "an USB"
turned up 0.7 million hits. So I'm going to stick with "a USB" unless
you feel strongly about this one. But I added a paragraph break and
hopefully cleaned up the wording a little.
