Well, I don't really know much. I only know I got the problem once and that was because of a gcc bug, which is not yet fixed (though #331460 is marked fixed, it actually isn't entirely fixed, there are still issues with c++ code using visibility). Now, it seems the involved code doesn't set visibility. The best for Michael to do is to grep PLT in the generated assembler code and check what can be generating those.
