I might be wrong in my understanding, but here are my insights of the
debian community so far.
- Rather than a compay, the Debian Project is a cooperation of many
volunteers (spread all over the world)
- These volunteers have in common their interest for the Debian Distribution
- If I am correctly informed, none of the work given towards the project
is paid by the projects (some positions like treasurer or DPL might be
paid though)
- Sponsorship in that regard is equivalent to some developer helping a
not-yet developer get his/her package into the archive
- At least to what I have seen there's no monetary incentive to
contribute to the Debian project, it is volunteer work.
With that in mind, you 'll probably need someone else to pay for
tuition, if you cannot do it yourself
