Thanks, I made the changes you suggested and uploaded successfully using scp. I hadn't actually logged in using ssh before so I hadn't seen the motd. The new maintainers guide seems to be a bit out of date. I'd like to help updating it so if anyone on this list (Josip Rodin) wants help please let me know.
