Hi all, I am writing a little daemon to use with a package I'm putting together. I would like to 'do-the-right-thing' and make the daemon run under a ID other than root (either its own or nobody). The daemon will be running from inetd.
The main problem, however, is that it needs to validate the people connecting, thus needs to check username/password (like pop). Is there a way to do this and still avoid using root privileges for the daemon? Also, do you just call setuid to drop root when inetd starts the program? Thanks, Chris -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The box said "Windows 95, NT or better" .. so I installed Debian Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply with subject 'request key' for PGP public key.
