Well the package is maintained, so it's still supported in that sense.
You might have a hard time getting "support" for the debstd in the
lists and IRC though.

Going from debstd to anything is hard, because it hides so much from
you.

Going from debhelper to hand-rolled is pretty easy, in both
directions, I think.
