Despite the fact that I often need help with packaging as well ... It's very difficult to install a consistant kde (98MMDD), even if previous kde versions (BETA2) are not installed: - there is no set of packages, which are all made from the same snapshot. - Many packages have equal dependencies like kdelibs0g (= 980312-3). Wouldn't it be better to make this look: kdelibs0g (>= 980312-<build-num-or-0>), kdelibs0g (< 980313) where the second dependency is the next snapshot (at least next day).
The other problem is, that the BETA2-kde's are in frozen, and the new ones go to experimental ... BETA2 never get's overwritten. However despite the inconsistencies the new snapshots are much more stable (thanks ;-) and I would consider them as bug fixes, which should go to frozen (or at least to unstable). I didn't explicitly check, if I violate the policy in some way, but there should be some mentors on the list as well ;-) Matthias Stephan Kulow writes: > Hi! > > I'm clueless, what to do with this bug report. > Shouldn't dpkg handle this and deinstall the Beta2-2 versions? > > Thanks for your advice. > > Greets, Stephan > > > Received: (at submit) by bugs.debian.org; 1 Apr 1998 11:58:21 +0000 > > Received: (qmail 16026 invoked from network); 1 Apr 1998 11:58:19 -0000 > > Received: from dial-16-max-ltnh-01.ramp.together.net (HELO > > spartacus.golgotha.net) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) > > by debian.novare.net with SMTP; 1 Apr 1998 11:58:19 -0000 > > Received: from redwards by spartacus.golgotha.net with local-smtp (Exim > > 1.891 #1) > > id 0yKM9R-0000ZR-00 (Debian); Wed, 1 Apr 1998 06:57:53 -0500 > > Date: Wed, 1 Apr 1998 06:57:52 -0500 (EST) > > From: Randy Edwards <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > X-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Subject: KDE package problems > > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > MIME-Version: 1.0 > > Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII > > Sender: Randy Edwards <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > > I'm running Hamm (w/kernel 2.0.33) and dselect gives me the following > > errors when trying to update KDE. > > > > It reports that kdeutils depends on kdelibs0g (= 980312-3) while > > kdenetwork, kdegames, and kdebase depend on kdelibs0g (= Beta2-2).
