I never seem to fit enough jargon into my e-mails. (-; I have a library package that CAN link against giflib. So Luis and I agreed to make a free and a non-free. One linked w/ giflib and one not. The upstream maintainer assumes that you want the giflib and gave no way to disable it. So I need to add a --with-gif ( or --without-gif) to configure to disable/enable gif support. My current package seems to ignore this switch and links my free lib against a non-free giflib.
