Note also that lintian source is pretty easy to figure out; in the case of this message, which I think everyone runs into, it asserts that $libraryname=~m/-$soname.so$/ (depreciated) or $libraryname=~m/.so.$soname$/ ("appreciated"). For each $libraryname in the set of files for which $(file $filename)=~m/shared object/i, or something similar.
