Hello,

> What advantages does this have over libcdaudio?

It works quite differently. libcdaudio controls the CD-ROM player to
have it play the CD (via ioctls) and also provides CDDB.

libcddb is a tinier library which only provides CDDB features. It can be
libcdused together with io for example, to actually get the data on the
libcdCD.

That's the approach used by VLC media player: libcdio (already in
Debian) and optionnally libcddb.

On the CDDB features themselves, both libraries seem quite equivalent :
both protocols, proxy, query/search/submit, ... libcddb offers a caching
that I don't think libcdio provides.
