It's indeed very strange. Someone suggested to use something like ftp://ftp2.sf.net/l/la/lam/ldap-account-manager_(.*)\.tar\.gz though.
Thus: ftp://ftp2.sf.net/<first_letter>/<2_first_letters>/<project_name>/<tarball> ~ ^^^ ^^^^^^^
