I have a problem with the upstream. It seems they want the package in
Debian very much, however they don't want to hear about versioned SONAMES,
and asked me not to make such a patch.

Since the project is GPL nothing forbids me from creating such a patch but
that would be against upstream's wishes.
Also not having versioned sonames breaks dh_makeshlibs, dh_shlibdeps.
