I can't figure it out right now, but /lib/ld-linux.so can be told which libraries to use explicitly. This is better than $LD_LIBRARY_PATH because it is more granular. That's like calling e.g. /usr/local/stow/myprog/bin/exec directly, rather than putting the directory in the $PATH and including all other executables from there. Or like the difference between python's from sys import path from sys import * when all you need is sys.path.
