That link has a few methods. I do prefer the clean slate method, so there's less cleanup to do later. It's worth noting that page was last modified six years ago. I would prefer for you to drop libjanet1.41 entirely and keep libjanet1.42. Packages should never be build depending on either directly; they will build depend on libjanet-dev which installs libjanet1.42. Additionally, this package has no reverse dependencies (yet), so dropping libjanet1.41 entirely shouldn't be an issue.
