Except that it is a pure MIT license. Could that cause issues?

I was involved in at least two similar occurrences of "must rename if modified" license clauses:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2016/03/msg00092.html (Protein DataBank files)

For InChI library it was decided against uploading it, but Protein DataBank files were not prevented from entering the archive. In the end both clauses were resolved upstream.
