The packages are now on mentors.debian.net
apt-get install -t unstable bootsplash kernel-patch-bootsplash
And you need to compile a kernel with the patch (man make-kpkg).
Sorry, you will need to install sysv-rc-bootsplash as well if you want progress bars and animations
apt-get install -t unstable sysv-rc-bootsplash
I thought I made it recommends or depends but it is only suggests.
