The most significant issue is that a source package would contain
hundreds of commits, and we cannot expect the FTP-masters to review all
of them to ensure that there is nothing that fails to meet DFSG.

As I understand it, at the time there was last anyone working on it,
git-bundle(1) did not support "shallow bundles" i.e. something like
shallow checkouts where only a few commits are included.  If that's
changed, perhaps progress could be made.  Since the bundle would still
contain commits that can be merged, cherry-picked, dgit-pushed etc. into
upstream and Debian git repos, it would be a big improvement over the
current situation with source packages.
