Hello, I'd like to become a Debian package maintainer and I have found a package that interests me a lot but that isn't in Debian yet. It is KVIrc 3, the next version of the KVIrc IRC client which is as 2.1 in Debian already.
I have mailed Robin Verduijn (current KVIrc 2 maintainer) and Szymon Stefanek (upstream author) about it and they'd both agree. KVIrc 3 is a complete rewrite of KVIrc 2, with different capabilities and features. Due to this (and both versions being incompatible), it would make sense to have both in Debian. Robin did agree on this, too. I have rebuilt Debian packages from source before, I have familiarized myself with the Debian philosophy, the application process and the policy. Currently, I am reading up on the new maintainer's guide. As you will all know, I need a sponsor or a mentor for the new package. Would anybody be able to help me out here? I'll be happy to go either way, I'd like to become a Debian member sooner or later. :) I'd be happy if someone would volunteer to assist me in my first steps.
