Careful, this will create a mess because subdir's Makefile ends up in
the current directory, overwriting the Makefile previously created by
./configure. Use this instead:
configure-stamp:
./configure --foo etc..
cd subdir && ./configure --bar etc...
build-stamp:
$(MAKE)
$(MAKE) -C subdir
