I guess that the correct place would be in the configuration
section of the debian/rules makefile... Just put it in the
place indicated and you're done (I guess that you're using
dh_make/debhelper for the construction of your package).
But I'm also a novice trying to get some things packages which
means that I'm not the most experienced person regarding
making packages (far, far, very far from it).
