I can confirm that starting with the less challenging task to just add software which is missing is quite easy and works like this: 1. Subscribe mailing list http://lists.debian.org/debian-med/ 2. Read Debian Med policy which should be quite verbose how the team is organised: http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/docs/policy.html 3. Make sure you checked our tasks pages to avoid duplication of effort: http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/bio http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/bio-dev As you can see it lists also work in progress packages. It would make sense to add the missing packages in your focus so if you would name these including homepage and a description I could add these This is work we can start now. For the different version issue IMHO it makes sense to answer the question on a case by case basis.
