I don't know if this update is
what broke things, but There is a date bug now, that affects
system files dates, and log file rotation.
ls /var/log | grep syslog Shows syslog file not being used, but syslog.1 being used instead. Rebooting has fixed this for now. ls /var/log shows " Oct 9 00:00 . ", I probably did the security update on the 8th. It should show today's date instead of Oct 9, because files in that directory have been modified today.
