You can set any convenient password in the install process.
After this, in a normal session, you can change to any password you like
with the command in a Terminal window:
passwd

I think the trouble was that I had the same password as the username.
I do this because if the screenreader won't work in the log in window, I can
type the same thing in both fields, and it reduces the chances for the
guessing game.
If I have different words, I have to try it with username, enter and PW,
enter, and enter again, in case it was wrong, and try again.
A second enter will enter on nothing so I can start at the top.
But with the same word for both, I have less trouble.
But it seems that this installer won't allow the same name for both.
I'm not worried about security, so I prefer a short and simple password.

Hello,
I'm using a Trixie live image, and I'm using the installer, and I am stuck
at the username password page, it will not advance.
I have 8 characters, one capital letter, a dash, and two numbers.
I'm using a screenreader, orca, and I don't read any error messages.
Could it matter that the word in the password is a real word?
I just found this in my spam folder, but don't recall any replies in
the meantime.
The login dialog box can cause some confusion even when not using a
screen reader.
It can be unclear whether the dialog is requesting username or
password. (this caught out a lot of LinuxCNC users with our Bookworm
image)
And I can imagine that a screen reader would make this more confusing.
