Hi Hans, Have you looked at the Debian live manual? It is comprehensive and has a good section on persistence [1] - it is likely more up to date than that post, however I appreciate it's much longer!
The post you're copying from looks like it takes a convoluted path towards building things - I am quite familiar with the process and the 'ExtraBootParams=$(XARGS <<eobp' etc had my brain spinning a little. It's worth reading the manual and stripping it back to basics. I strongly recommend thinking about the section on managing a configuration at [2] - auto scripts will make things easier to track, and the above section on persistence slots in there too. As the other reply suggests, package lists [3] will help keep what you want well organised. This would give you more reproducibility and control as your understanding and development progresses. You can peruse my personal live image at [4] for some inspiration - I have an auto script that has persistence and some packages and other refinements defined. If you're doing this under git, a good .gitignore is needed as the system generates a lot of files you don't need to commit! All the best in your exploration!
