I use live-build to create my isos and I have a small explanation of what I
do here:

I'm not suggesting that you use what I have created, but it might help fill
in some of the blanks in the documentation.

I found the documentation very difficult to understand. I always hoped that
they might create some worked examples, as I found the small examples in
the docs too small to connect all the dots to get what I wanted.
