Well I actually got some help in IRC earlier and I'm happy to say that part of the problem has been elucidated, I had a repository which was trying to upgrade the connection to https. For now, I've removed it and confirmed that without using https repositories, live-build functions correctly.
That said, I'm still open to suggestions on a way to incorporate it or work around it because even though this is primarily a way of backing up and managing my own configuration, the pieces that don't work are pretty important to the whole deal.
