Thanks for working on this! I'm redirecting this discussion to #773881, since #773868 was about a smaller, more specific problem, which has been resolved already. Please send replies to 773...@bugs.debian.org only. This patch doesn't apply on current debian-next branch (live-boot 5.x), which is were overlayfs support should be fixed, since live-boot 4.x is frozen and Jessie won't have overlayfs support anyway. I've imported your patch into Git, on top of debian-next + the other fix I've attached to #773881 a few weeks ago. I've added a few code cleanups and small refactoring bits on top, and the result can be found in the feature/overlayfs branch of the Tails live-boot Git repository: https://git-tails.immerda.ch/live-boot After applying my current patch set to live-boot 5.0~a1-1, I could successfully boot a Tails (Wheezy) system with union=overlay => please review and merge.
