E.g. wouldn't it be nicer to add a (low-priority, disabled by default) debconf option to mlocate, that would update the mlocate db in mlocate.postinst when it is enabled?
..until that is in place, we'll still need to take care about it in live-build itself (at least for squeeze[0]).
[0] eventhough the official squeeze images are build with 2.x, 3.x should still supports building squeeze, with improvements where available.
