What kind of a terminal does this occur in? Could the live image possibly have missing terminfo files, or optimised terminfo files, that could cause the problem? Has anyone tried stracing it (to see why it doesn't read a keypress from the console, or why it exits early, or if it bungles some escape sequences somehow? Capturing a typescript might also aid in debugging. -- see shy jo
