The way its named (LH_ prefix) indicates to me its not an 'internal'
variable; maybe at one point it was meant to be exposed as an option?

However, I agree that we should probably give more thought as to how we want
to handle more advanced and esoteric options that we don't want to
confuse/bother regular users with.
