Is there something messed up with the partition type?

fdisk -l /dev/sdb

Disk /dev/sdb: 4043 MB, 4043309056 bytes
136 heads, 25 sectors/track, 2322 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 3400 * 512 = 1740800 bytes

  Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1   *           1         220      373759+  83  Linux

But filesystem installed on sdb1 is vfat
/dev/sdb1 on /media/DEBIAN_LIVE type vfat (rw)

Is this correct?
On Debian and WinXP the USB-Stick is mountable but not under MAC OSX (leopard)

I changed the partition table type to
  Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1   *           1         220      373759+   b  W95 FAT32

now it is mountable under Mac OSX too.
