just adding to what others have already said:

once we have brought live-initramfs 2.x in a reasonable state, it will be very easily extensible, so that including technices like openvpn or ike are relatively easy.

at least openvpn integration is defintely on my todo list, but i personally will not be able to do that earlier than april 2010. there's too much things to be done in general live-initramfs first.
