I believe that copying it to the binary is preffered. This makes it
available in the live media itself.

However it means I add many (mostly small) files to a FAT filesystem.
That can inflate it. I eventually opted to replace some parts (the local
copy of live-helper[1].

Indeed. I have 'REDUNDANT_FILES' in that script and it was good enough
for me. I don't have local packages in the chroot.

[1] I was not usre what my local changes are. Was not sure in advance
there won't be any. In practice I often have minor ones.
