 That did it! As I should have read and you told me, I just went
"todisk=<DEVICE>" in one previous boot to notice a different boot line
looking like:

 Begin: Copying live media to <DEVICE> mount -t ext3 <DEVICE> /live/image_swap

 and then I could clearly see it worked because I took the CD off and
I am using debian-live just fine right now

[    0.000000] Kernel command line: initrd=/live/initrd1.img boot=live
union=aufs bootfrom=/dev/hdb4 BOOT_IMAGE=/live/vmlinuz1

 I still have the problem with the video which I think I should
restart on another thread
