It's not about syslinux not supporting these. The bios emulation in macs is seriously broken, and almost nothing boots on these. The keyboard issue is well known, and the only fix that will ever work reliably for these machines is most likely boot timeout. For one the "Press any key to boot from CD" on the Windows CDs does not work either. I think that having D-L boot automatically will give users more choice. Of course the hardware on which this is required is broken (and it is not only iMacs, some random PC mainboards also fail to emulate PS/2 on top of USB). If you decide that automatic booting is not supported users still likely have the choice, only outside of Debian.
