what mainboard do you use? what bios does it use? is it the latest
available bios from the vendor?

this is either a corrupted cd (be it the media or the download), or
syslinux which doesn't like your bios.

from what you said, i figure it's a syslinux problem then (similar as
with your notebook), rather than the media.
