I successfully configured locale and keyboard for the UK in config/binary using

        LIVE_BOOTAPPEND="locale=en_GB.UTF-8 keyb=uk"
or
        LIVE_BOOTAPPEND="locale=uk"

I discovered that I had to use "uk" and not "gb" in the entries. (You must use
"gb" when using dpkg-reconfigure to set a UK keyboard.) I wondered whether using
"uk" was a deliberate feature in live-initramfs. Anyway, I have documented these
LIVE_BOOTAPPEND lines in the wiki FAQ.
