I think this sounds excellent but might be complicated. If you can pass along a request to review the summary and/or participate in the workgroup, that'd be great. Or if you give me his contact info, I can ask, too. I figure commentary, conference, and consequence is probably going to be about 4-8 hours of work for him at the outside. I don't know if there's a formal way to request this kind of expense from SPI; advice requested. I also don't think his participation is a make-or-break thing.
