This is actually becoming a serious problem. Even in debian. Otherwise perfectly good computers get short of memory just because browsers (and, more generally, graphics) are blowing up without control. Debian live is the best way to show people what is possible, but just updating it makes my 4GHz, 2GB old companion unable to hold everything in RAM.
