Strange occurrence... eth0 is now working. eth0 entries in /etc/network/interfaces are commented out, and /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf is set to 'managed=false'. I'd rebooted after each change of setting yesterday, and have no idea why are booting up just now, it's working. But hey, it's working!
