Ubuntu isn't Debian.
The module is in Debian (Etch-n-half and Lenny. I don't know about
Etch), and it was reported to work zd1211. However it requires a
non-free firmware[2]

During Lenny installation, you need to provide the firmware manually (on
a usb key). see:
