Hi, I use an old thosiba notebook with Debian Etch and an PCMCIA-Card D-Link DE-660+. Everything works fine. Yesterday I found an PCMCIA-Card from D-Link the DFE-650TXD, which is faster and more comfortable. I tested them under Windows and Debian Etch on an IBM Thinkpad. The card works fine, so I changed the card in the toshiba notebook. Surprisingly the card doesn't work. So I checked the syslog-entries: On both machine they equal:
Nov 9 19:34:36 onnie kernel: pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0 Nov 9 19:34:36 onnie kernel: pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia0.0 Nov 9 19:34:36 onnie kernel: eth0: NE2000 (DL10022 rev 30): io 0x300, irq 3, hw_addr 00:40:05:8E:FA:5D So card would be found. Next I checked lspcmcia, again on both machines the same result Socket 0 Bridge: [yenta_cardbus] (bus ID: 0000:00:0b.0) Configuration: state: on ready: yes Voltage: 5.0V Vcc: 5.0V Vpp: 0.0V Socket 0 Device 0: [pcnet_cs] (bus ID: 0.0) Configuration: state: on Product Name: D-Link DFE-650TXD Fast Ethernet Rev. A1 Identification: manf_id: 0x0149 card_id: 0x0230 function: 6 (network) prod_id(1): "D-Link" (0x1a424a1c) prod_id(2): "DFE-650TXD" (0xd661b6dc) prod_id(3): "Fast Ethernet" (0xb4be14e3) prod_id(4): "Rev. A1" (0x5afd938b) Socket 1 Bridge: [yenta_cardbus] (bus ID: 0000:00:0b.1) Configuration: state: on ready: yes So it looks for me that the card is recognized on both cards. I don't remember that I did any special thing at the installation at any of the notebooks. So the software should be more or less equal. I checked the kernel-version, on both they are same: Linux onnie 2.6.18-5-686 #1 SMP Wed Oct 3 00:12:50 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux The fact that the other card works out-of-the-box shows me that pcmcia is well installed on both machine, but on the toshiba notebook with the new card I only see the loopback-device if I call ifconfig :-( Any hints are welcomed.
