OK, before we do anything else: Your upgrade is incomplete, you need to make sure that you have a 2.6.18 kernel with udev 0.105-4. Please read the release notes of Etch at http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/index.en.html especially section 4 "Upgrades from previous releases". Try to follow the procedures outlined therein. Some of the things described there have already happened on your system, but others have not and still need to be done, for example "Upgrading the kernel" (sections 4.5.5 and 4.6). The procedures are such that you can perform them all on the command line with aptitude; you won't need X. Once your system is properly upgraded X should start to work again. Also make sure that you run "dpkg --purge hotplug" once you are done with the upgrade. (This might already be included as a step in the upgrade procedure; if it is not then run it afterwards.) -- Regards, | http://users.icfo.es/Florian.Kulzer Florian | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
