Justin, I use a Thinkpad 600e (366 MHz, I think?) 192M RAM running Debian testing for my backup machine (currently using it while I replace my almost never used Windows partition on my main machine with NetBSD, as a matter of fact :-).
Redrawing windows when switching between work spaces is a little slow, but I find X quite useable. Firefox is a little sluggish, evince, USB, PCMCIA wireless all work fine, never tried Open Office, never tried to clock a kernel build. Generally, I have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works. The screen is actually brighter and crisper then my PIII a21m Thinkpad.
