I am trying to get a system installed on a Fujutsu P7120 notebook, but so far have not achieved 100% success with any of the distributions I have tried.
My experience has been as follows: 1. Ubuntu 5.04 (kernel 2.6.10-6-386) Installation completes but leaves non-working X display X - i810 not working, only works with vesa in 1024x768 resolution Sound - not working LAN - works fine Wireless - works fine CD/DVD - works fine 2. Ubuntu 5.10 (kernel 2.6.12-10-386) Installation completes X - i810 now working, but only 1024x768 resolution (should be 1280x768) Sound - works fine LAN - works fine Wirelsess - works fine CD/DVD - works during install, then not found :-/ 3. Debian Etch (20060304) Install fails at the 'Detect and mount CD-ROM' stage with "No common CD-ROM drive was detected" Has anyone any idea what problem Debian install (and Ubuntu 5.10 post install) has with this CD/DVD drive, and what I can try to get around it? On Ubuntu 5.04 which does find it, dmesg reports: ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x14B8 ctl 0x140E bmdma 0x14A0 irq 19 ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x14B0 ctl 0x140A bmdma 0x14A8 irq 19 usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 ata1: dev 0 cfg 49:0f00 82:0000 83:0000 84:0000 85:0000 86:0000 87:0000 88:0407 ata1: dev 0 ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata1(0): applying bridge limits ata1: PIO error, drv_stat 0x0 ata1: dev 1 cfg 49:0000 82:0000 83:0000 84:0000 85:0000 86:0000 87:0000 88:0000 ata1: no dma/lba ata1: dev 1 not supported, ignoring ata1: dev 0 configured for UDMA/33 scsi0 : ata_piix usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x14B7 ata2: disabling port scsi1 : ata_piix Vendor: MATSHITA Model: DVD-RAM UJ-832S Rev: 1.01 Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 05 On the Ubuntu 5.10 which doesn't seem to detect it, I see: [4294677.037000] ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xF8874500 ctl 0x0 bmdma 0x0 irq 19 [4294677.037000] ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xF8874580 ctl 0x0 bmdma 0x0 irq 19 [4294677.037000] ata3: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xF8874600 ctl 0x0 bmdma 0x0 irq 19 [4294677.037000] ata4: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xF8874680 ctl 0x0 bmdma 0x0 irq 19 [4294678.260000] ata1: dev 0 cfg 49:0f00 82:0000 83:0000 84:0000 85:0000 86:0000 87:0000 88:0007 [4294678.260000] ata1: dev 0 ATAPI, max UDMA/33 [4294678.260000] ata1(0): applying bridge limits [4294678.262000] ata1: dev 0 configured for UDMA/33 [4294678.262000] scsi0 : ahci [4294678.463000] ata2: no device found (phy stat 00000000) [4294678.463000] scsi1 : ahci [4294678.664000] ata3: no device found (phy stat 00000000) [4294678.664000] scsi2 : ahci [4294678.865000] ata4: no device found (phy stat 00000000) [4294678.865000] scsi3 : ahci [4294678.865000] ata1: error occurred, port reset [4294678.865000] ata1: error occurred, port reset [4294678.865000] Assertion failed! qc->flags & ATA_QCFLAG_ACTIVE,drivers/scsi/li bata-core.c,ata_qc_complete,line=3082 [4294678.875000] ICH6: IDE controller at PCI slot 0000:00:1f.1 Not sure if that contains the necessary clue, but the 'Assertion failed' message looks suspicious. So far I have not gotten far enough with the Debian install to get the dmesg output. I havn't tried unstable yet - I suppose that should be next. Regards, DigbyT -- Digby R. S.
