thank you very much for your help. With dmidecode i realized that i
have two banks of 256 each of DDR RAM. Do you know if it's possible to
leave one bank of 256 MB and install in the other a bank with different
size (let's say 512 MB or 1 GB)?

dmidecode can give you some information, within the "Memory Module
Information" section.
Also worth checking the crucial memory website [1] as this often tells
you what you can put in a machine. Here [2] is the page for your
