Thanks for all your efforts! Just for the record: No, your version you sent me did not work.... However, there was a bug in the console-data package, which was fixed with version 2002.12.04dbs-41. So installing the new version, and then doing a "dpkg-reconfigure console-data" (and selecting the right options) fixed my ALT + F1 to F7 problem.
