Whata disk set and release are you using? Woody? Sarge? If Woody,
which net install CD are you using?
What does the file /etc/apt/sources.list contain?
For Woody try something like:
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ woody main non-free contrib
deb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ woody main non-free contrib
