I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following issue I have a somewhat old Dell Latitude CP with Debian potato. The install is done, everything set up, etc. KDE was installed along with XF86 4.1 for the GUI.
Whenever I issue startx, the X server comes up, KDE comes up, and everything begins loading. Right about the time the "Peripherals" Icon has been up a few moments in the KDE bootup image X dies without much in the way of a server error (Caught signal 11...that's about it) The part that dumbfounds me is I can run xinit fine, and I can run twm without a hitch also. So I'm tempted to say the issue is not in the XF86Config-4 file. I'm not sure what happens at this point in KDE, so if anyone could even impart a clue it would be helpful. I tried removing the DRI section. I tried removing the Intellimouse section (imps/2) and the enabling line for it. I also tried removing the last two FontPath lines in that section because they were part of a different deb package. None of these changes affected the outcome Just in case it is helpful, here's the tail -25 of the XFree log: ------START---------------------------- (II) Initializing built-in extension RENDER PEXExtensionInit: Couldn't open default PEX font file Roman_M (II) Keyboard "Generic Keyboard" handled by legacy driver (**) Option "Protocol" "PS/2" (**) Configured Mouse: Protocol: "PS/2" (**) Option "CorePointer" (**) Configured Mouse: Core Pointer (**) Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" (==) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 3 (**) Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" (**) Configured Mouse: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50 (**) Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" (**) Configured Mouse: ZAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5 (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Configured Mouse" (type: MOUSE) Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!
